What is Ratha Yatra?

Ratha Yatra — the Festival of the Chariots — is one of the oldest and most joyful festivals in the world. Originating in Puri, India, over 5,000 years ago, it celebrates Lord Jagannath (the Lord of the Universe) who comes out of his temple to bless all people equally, regardless of caste, religion or background.

The festival features a massive decorated chariot (ratha) that is pulled through the streets by devotees and guests. Anyone who pulls the rope of Lord Jagannath's chariot is said to receive immense spiritual blessings.
