Bhakti Yoga & The Mantra
What is Bhakti Yoga?
Bhakti Yoga is the spiritual path of devotion to God (Krishna). It includes chanting the Hare Krishna mantra, studying the Bhagavad-Gita, and serving others with love and devotion. It is described in Vedic scriptures as the most powerful path for spiritual realisation in this age.
What is the Hare Krishna Maha Mantra?
The Hare Krishna Maha Mantra is:
Hare Krishna Hare Krishna Krishna Krishna Hare Hare
Hare Rama Hare Rama Rama Rama Hare Hare
These 16 words are a direct prayer to the Lord and His energy. Chanting this mantra purifies the mind and connects us with God through transcendental sound vibration. It is free, requires no initiation and is open to absolutely everyone.
What is kirtan?
Kirtan is the congregational chanting of God's names with music — mridanga drums, kartals (hand cymbals) and harmonium. A lead singer sings a phrase and everyone repeats it. It is deeply meditative, joyful and open to all — no musical experience needed.
