What the scriptures say about Ratha Yātrā
These teachings come from ancient Vedic scriptures — the Brahma Purāṇa and Skanda Purāṇa — explained by His Divine Grace A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Śrīla Prabhupāda (1896–1977), the Indian spiritual teacher who brought Bhakti Yoga and the Hare Krishna movement to the Western world. He founded ISKCON and translated over 70 volumes of Vedic wisdom into English.
Anyone who sees Lord Jagannātha on the chariot, even once, is freed from all sinful reactions accumulated over many lifetimes. There is no doubt about this.
— Śrīla Prabhupāda

Simply by participating in Ratha Yātrā, one gets the benefit of visiting all the holy places of the universe — Vṛndāvana, Dvārakā, Mathurā — all at once.
— Śrīla Prabhupāda

Anyone who participates in Ratha Yātrā — pulling the rope, cooking, serving — goes back to Godhead. This is the promise of the scriptures.
